AFRICA   INX has packaged all the key infrastructures that an ISP needs. Its close partnership with Teraco, the only independent telehousing facility in SA, provides the important building block of independent hosting.

Independent Telehousing and access to NAPAfrica
Data centre access, provided by Teraco, offers the important building block of independent hosting. All ISPs who relocate their infrastructure to any of Teraco's facilities will have easy access into the AFRICAINX network for only a low cost port fee. Once connected into the network, ISPs automatically gain access to all the wholesale services. Teraco recently launched free access in its data centres to its Network Exchange Point named NAPAfrica. NAPAfrica provides for a carrier neutral Layer 2 Internet exchange point (IXP) in the southern African region, providing high-capacity multimegabit links (up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet) between the various global and local network operators. AFRICAINX provides access to NAPAfrica and any provider on NAPAfrica can also access the AFRICAINX free of port charges. This broadens access even more and opens the market for lower cost NNIs.

Access to Metro Ethernet Fibre ring
All connected customers will get access to AFRICAINX Metro Ethernet Fibre network. This will enable their retail clients to connect into the fibre nodes, which are located in many of the key business areas such as Rosebank, Sandton, Midrand and Isando, in Gauteng and central Cape Town, Newlands / Rondebosch, Bellville and many others to come.

ISP to ISP Peering
Although AFRICAINX sells local IP Transit, it encourages its customers to peer directly with each other and also to peer with others at JINX which is one of the switch hubs on the AFRICAINX fibre ring. CINX will also be included in future as the demand grows.

Wholesale Voice Provisioning and Voice Interconnect
AFRICAINX is also party to a wholesale VoIP switch, Virtual VoIP Provider, which is also hosted at Teraco and available on the fibre ring for the use by any of the participating service providers who wish to use it as their primary or secondary voice switch.

The switch offers:

  • Wholesale voice minutes

  • A virtual PBX platform for service provider who do not want to build their own platforms

  • A platform to facilitate number block hosting on for providers who have an ECS licence and their own number blocks, but do not have the skills to deploy the infrastructure
